What does SMSYO do?
We update your social network status via any SMS that you sent to our dedicated mobile number.
Besides, we also upload photo to your social network via MMS to our email, mms@smsyo.com .
There will be more services to be rolled out soon. Stay tune with our announcement for more updates from us.

Which social networks does SMSYO support?
We are supporting Facebook, Twitter, Friendster and Plurk at the moment. Our target is to let users upload status to multiple social networks with just one SMS. We will cover more social networks and also expand to blog in the later phase.

What is the future service of SMSYO?
Our latest service coming to you will include sending message directly to your cellphone from the person you opt to follow on-the-go in Twitter, Facebook and/or Plurk; we will be releasing it very soon after the beta test phase.
Besides, more features will be added to your personal "My Status" page – you can arrange and edit your message book and photo album soon. There will also be a Private room for you to constantly update your status and blog.

How can I register and start using this service?
It is very simple to register and sign up. You can refer to our Registration Guide for detailed steps or you can follow the TIPS after you register to continue to next steps.

How do I know it will work?
We are offering free service to all users. You can send as many SMS as possible to our dedicated phone number to try updating your social network. However, remember to activate your social network and register your phone number in our database first before you start sending SMS.

Why do I need to activate my Facebook/Twitter/Friendster in your database?
We need to access the Facebook/Twitter/Frienster API to find your friends and messages. We won't use this info for any other purpose. You can read about our privacy policy here.

Is my number kept private?
Yes, the phone number you enter is kept secure in our database and never published. You can read about our privacy policy here.

How many phone numbers can I use?
You can register one phone number per country, e.g. one Malaysia and Singapore phone number. You can use the registered phone number to update your status even when you are abroad. We are rolling out multiple phone numbers per user even in the same country soon. Stay tune!

Why do you need my Twitter username and password?
We need to access the Twitter API to find your friends and messages. We won't use this info for any other purpose. You can read about our privacy policy here.

Can I get instant update if my friend sent me a message in Twitter?
Yes. You can do it when we roll out our phase2 service. We will try to cover as many countries as possible in phase2.
It will be charged at a minimal rate that we have not decided yet. The fees are mainly used to pay for our network bandwidth and mobile plan charges.

Can I reply to a message to put it into Twitter?
Yes. You just need to 'reply' or 'send new SMS' on your phone to post in Twitter.

How much does it cost?
In phase 1, we allow you to update free messages as long as you register your phone number and send SMS to our dedicated number via your registered number (unfortunately we don't support local SMS in all countries at the moment).
We will roll out premium packages for the new premium services that we offer in phase 2 and occasionally we will send you adverts by text to help pay for the service which you can unsubscribe from, just email to admin@smsyo.com.
However our objective to bring in SMS adverts is to promote phone shopping that will be the trend in the new era. Hope that you all will like it.

What are other hidden costs to me?
There is no other hidden cost charged by us to use our service. However, other cost that individual user might incur will be cost of SMS and MMS charged by individual mobile operators. Besides, for the countries that we do not support local SMS/MMS, user will need to bear the cost of international SMS/MMS.

Which countries are supported?
We support local SMS/MMS from users in Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. We will open up local SMS/MMS service in more countries such as Philippines, HK and China soon.

Do you support non-english characters?
Yes. However, due to SMS technical limitations, only the first 70 characters of a message with non-english characters will be sent.

What happen if the individual social network offer SMS upload service?
We will be glad that all of us can easily update our status in social network now. But unfortunately, we do not see this happening for free and covering as many services as we do. Hence, we are constantly developing our service to serve you better.

If I want to update Twitter only and not other social network, what should I do?
You can make use of our new features and send SMS in below format to us:

  • !fb for facebook
  • !fs for friendster
  • !pl for Plurk
  • !tw for twitter
  •

If I want to take out my suffix in my tweet, what should I do?
Around 40% of random Twitter updates generated from our website will contain the suffix "http://smsyo.com". This is to help to share this FREE service with more new users. We hope that you don't mind keeping this suffix here. If you intend to remove the suffix, you can go to "Remove the URL in your status?" to do so. Please take note that URLs from social network, such as Facebook, Plurk and Twitter are not eligible for the removal of suffix.

If I travel in Malaysia, can I still update my status via your service?
Yes. As long as you register your phone number in our system, you will be able to update your status via SMS to any of our dedicated country numbers in any countries. Just bear in mind that you will need to pay for roaming SMS if you are travelling. A better way is to get a local phone number in Malaysia, register this number to our system and SMS to our Malaysia dedicated number to update your status.

Can I unlink my social account(s) and mobile number(s)?
Yes. You have the rights to unlink your social account(s) and mobile number(s) from our service. To unlink Twitter and Plurk account, simply go to our ""Social Network Activation"" page and click on "unlink your account" button. To unlink Facebook account, you need to manually go to your ""facebook apps page"" . Click the "X" icon of SMSYO to remove it. To remove any mobile number, please go to ""Phone Activation"" page and click on the "Remove" button.

Can I delete my own updates?
Yes. You have the rights to disable any updates sent via your registered numbers. Simply go to "My Status" page and you can start cleaning up and arranging your message books.

I do not want others to access and view my updates, what should I do?
You can go to "Profile" page and click on the option "Private". This feature will prevent other user to access and view your status page. Your update will still flow into the "Public Status Stream" - but no worries, they will be flushed down within seconds due to our high status traffic flow. If you want to open the access of your status page to others, simply go back to "Profile" page and choose the option "Allow Public".
